The story of the Three Little Pigs is something that every kid hears at least once during their childhood. Sure, it's basically a story of vandalism being thwarted by bacon, but when it comes down to it, the story is harmless. House of Cards, on the other hand, is the complete opposite: its story is all about rooting for the bad guy as Frank Underwood (played by Kevin Spacey) takes the government apart piece-by-piece...it's not exactly family-friendly stuff.
So, it's a little surprising to see an homage to the Netflix Original on Sesame Street - the two shows aren't exactly something you'd ever see back-to-back. Of course, that didn't really stop the folks over at PBS...
Alright, to be fair: the parody is far more Three Little Pigs than House of Cards. It's probably for the best: little kids probably shouldn't be introduced to blatant government corruption and political backstabbing until they hit grade school.
There's also the standard Sesame Street lesson, with extreme property damage used as a metaphor for subtraction. Granted, it might be a little extreme when compared to other segments from the show, but at least it's interesting to watch. It doesn't matter how old you are - demolition is always fun!
Let's be honest: there's not much in the way of Sesame Street-appropriate content on House of Cards, so finding a sketch the parodied the show couldn't have been easy. Even the House of Cards poster shows Kevin Spacey covered in blood - you probably shouldn't expect a Muppet to look anything like that any time soon.
Let's just hope that, when Sesame Street finally gets around to covering government corruption, political manipulation and the harm it does to the average working class, the show's not afraid to bring Frank Underwolf back.
