Valentine's Day Doodle: Behind the scenes of Google's six love stories

Today is Valentine's Day and Google, as expected, is showing off its new Doodle. This one is a little bit different compared to the other Doodles before it. Many of Google Doodles are interactive, but none of them told six thrilling love stories to show what Valentine's Day is all about.

The new interactive Doodle comes with 6 interactive love stories fit for Valentine's Day. They include, Mr. Right, 4ever Yours, Blind Date, Crush, First Kiss, and Puppy Luv. Whenever a user clicks on one of the interactive candies, they will be greeted by a romantic love story linked to that particular candy. It's one of the best Doodle's the search engine giant has ever done, and also, it is perfect for this Valentine's Day.

The stories are touching as the secondary subject matter varies, though the main prospect of love between two people is still the center of attraction. One particular story is about losing each other after death, and the other is about two best friends who missed several opportunities to connect with each other.

How did Google pull it off?

The search engine giant chose to team up with long-form storytelling radio show, This American Life. It's a podcast show based in Chicago, and the goal here was to craft seven mini love stories for Google's Valentine's Day Doodle. However, since there are only six letters in the name Google, only six stories were placed on the company's homepage. The other can be listened from This American Life's webpage.

Apparently, Google had no plans to create such a Doodle for Valentine's Day 2014; however, the owner of This American Life, Ira Glass, visited the search engine giant and right away the two parties came to a mutual agreement.

"He was meeting us for fun, I guess," says Google Doodle illustrator Jennifer Hom. "I'm not even sure why he was here."

There's a video highlighting what went on behind the scenes of the Valentine's Day 2014 Google Doodle, and it shows what appears to be a fun work environment that consists of toys, and what seems to be a real dog.

The Doodle team is never sure what will come next, but they continue to work hard on bringing the world fun and inspirational Doodles.

"You never know what you are going to get," says Ryan Germick, who leads the doodle team, "and we keep making more and more of these things."

So far, Google has created 11 Doodles since the beginning of 2014.
