At long last, fans of pugilism will be able to see two champions and future Hall of Famers square off in the ring. Word broke a few days ago that Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao signed on the dotted line and will face each other at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas on May 2.
Already billed as "the highest grossing fight in history" by boxing analysts, Mayweather vs. Pacquiao has been a long time in the making. Five years to be exact. The tale of the tape is in Mayweather's favor, but Pacquiao showed he still had his domineering spirit after a win versus Chris Algeri in November 2014. Despite predictions from the boxing elite and not-so-elite that this bout will be a must-see, it seems that the true test will be the public not exploding after witnessing both this fight and Marvel's Avengers: Age Of Ultron on May 1.
Mayweather (47-0-0) is unbeaten in every bout he's taken on. Meanwhile, Pacquiao, the WBO Light Welterweight champion, has fought more times (57) than Floyd, yet has lost five times over the course of his boxing career. With the two embarking on a true clash of warriors (and styles), the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight has sparked excitement in a sport long considered past its prime. As the contestants have ironed out all their issues with drug testing, the location of the bout, and the purse split, the Twitterverse was content in expressing its excitement in the upcoming 2015 Event of the Year in boxing.
Both fighters took to social media to confirm that the fight is a go, so with that said, we took to the interwebs to highlight the most interesting comments about the upcoming #MayweatherPacquiao bout.
