Samsung has made significant progress recently in rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update to smartphones in its flagship Galaxy S series. While some Galaxy S owners are already enjoying the new OS on their device, others are still awaiting the update.
Here's a roundup of devices and carriers that have implemented the update so far, and which are expected.
Samsung Galaxy S5: Verizon
Samsung Galaxy S5: Sprint
Samsung Galaxy S5: T-Mobile
Samsung Galaxy S4: Samsung's earlier iteration of its flagship smartphone has yet to receive an Android 5.0 Lollipop update in the U.S. Samsung rolled out an update to the international version of the device in Russia at the end of January, and on Feb.10, users in India received the update. If Samsung follows the same release approach it used with the S5, U.S. users can expect an update in the near future.
Samsung Galaxy S3: Speculation is that Samsung may pass on an Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Galaxy S3. The device is over two years old, and has still not received an Android 4.4.4 KitKat Update. Samsung, which has officially confirmed updates for many of its devices, has remained mum on the S3. Samsung's recent confirmation that the Galaxy Note 2 will receive a Lollipop Update holds out some hope for the S3, however, as the Note 2 was released only a few months after the S3.
Galaxy S5 Mini, Galaxy S5 Active, Galaxy Alpha: While Android 5.0 Lollipop is expected to be available on both specialized variants of the Galaxy S5, as well as the newer Alpha, no progress has been reported yet as far as the rollout is concerned. Samsung is focusing on its more popular flagship devices first, so these updates may be months away.
