Like any Olympic games staged in the past, lots of interesting and inspiring stories emerge on the amazing athletes that participate and the incredible obstacles they've overcome to get there. However, this isn't one of those stories.
Instead, we direct your attention to the goings on over at Canada's Olympic house in Sochi for a brief story, that while not exactly inspiring, will certainly put a smile on your face.
We give you Team Canada's unique beer fridge that only opens when you insert a Canadian passport. A CBS photographer covering the games tweeted out a picture earlier this week of this fairly exclusive icebox. Knowing that certain brands of beer are considered liquid gold north of the border, we completely get and appreciate this technology.
Apparently Molson Canadian is responsible for the placement of the cherry red, packed to gills with Moulson Golden, fridge that should keep Olympic Canucks sipping suds for the entire two-week period of the Games. Although we imagine, depending on what kind of success Canada has at these Games, this fridge will be have to restocked more than a few times.
The folks at Molson have explained that prior to the Olympics they placed the fridge at multiple locations around Europe and encouraged residents as well as tourists to seek out a Canadian to gain access to the beer inside the fridge.
A fun and effective brand promotional idea for Molson and it wasn't for nothing. At last check Canada sat near the top the Game's medal standings with 4 golds, 5 silvers and 2 bronze. No U.S. equivalent has been reported just yet but I'm thinking a fridge stocked with some really awful tasting light beer (why are we so obsessed with light beer down here?) would only serve to embarrass Team USA, so let's hope our Canadian friends are generous with those passports.
Keep those suds nice and cold for at least another week, eh.
