Today, LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham is getting a little bizarre.
Bizarro and his friends from Htrae are now available in a new add-on pack for the game. For $2.99 (or included in the Season Pass), you'll get five new characters and Bizarro's world to play in, where a new story mode finds Darkseid laying siege to Htrae, aka Bizarro-World. The five new characters you get with the pack are Bizarro, Batzarro (Batman), Bizarra (Wonder Woman), CyZarro (Cyborg) and GreenZarro (Green Lantern — the Guy Gardner one, for some reason).
For the unaware, Bizarro began his life as a Superman villain. He's basically a backwards, wildly unintelligent version of Superman, with all of the Man of Steel's powers but none of his intellect or morals. In the comics, he's a clone of Superman created by Lex Luthor, but the process went horribly wrong. His speech is like caveman talk, and everything he says is the opposite of what he means ("bad" means "good," "up" is "down," etc.).Though he was originally a baddie, Bizarro has just as often played the role of protagonist, with his misguided innocence driving him to try and help Superman.
In the years since his creation, Bizarro has even gotten his own cube-shaped parallel Earth to live on, where he fights alongside Bizarro-versions of Earth's greatest heroes. That they never know whether they're fighting for good or bad is irrelevant to them. Some readers find the Bizarro characters to be goofy and funny; others find them ridiculous to the point of being grating.
Whichever side you fall on, the new LEGO Batman 3 DLC looks appropriately fun, taming Bizarro and his pals at least enough to make them playable in LEGO terms.
