Stop what you're doing, and listen to this right now.
Some genius named Beckyonce has created the inevitable mash-up of Beck's laid-back '90s jam "Loser" with Beyonce's 2008 anthem "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on it)," and it is glorious. You would think the combination of Beck's upbeat busker tune underneath Queen Bey's powerful vocals would be so wrong. But instead, it is so, so right.
Of course, a week ago, no one would have associated Beck and Beyonce with each other at all. That was until Beck's album Morning Phase snagged the "Album of the Year" award at the Grammys ceremony on Feb. 8, beating out Beyonce's self-titled fifth studio album for the title. During Beck's acceptance speech, Kanye West rushed the stage in what seemed like a playful reference to his infamous rant at the 2009 Video Music Awards where he proclaimed that Taylor Swift robbed Beyonce of her "Best Female Video" honor. However, West wasn't really playing, and he spent the next few days continuing to say Beyonce was snubbed at the Grammys.
This cool mash-up is at once chill and empowering. It might not have West and anyone else that thinks Beyonce should have won "Album of the Year" change their tune completely, but no one can deny its awesomeness. Hopefully, it puts all of this Grammys drama to rest once and for all.
But then again, this track could inspire a whole new controversy on its own. Remember when it was reported that Beyonce threatened legal action against Etsy for allowing users to sell merchandise that riffed on her name? If that's the case, she might love the mash-up but hate the fact that whoever Beckyonce is made a mash-up of her and Beck's names too, no matter how clever it is.
