Last March, Titanfall was the only Xbox exclusive anyone cared about. Created by the minds behind Call of Duty, Titanfall looked like players' first taste of true next-generation multiplayer. While it wasn't a perfect game, it was a massive success for both the Xbox and Respawn Entertainment: who knew people liked giant robots and parkour so much?
It was obvious that Titanfall would become a franchise, but many wondered if the series would stay exclusive to Microsoft's machines. The PlayStation 4 was still far ahead of the Xbox One in terms of sales at the time, and Titanfall's numbers, while impressive (especially for a new studio), weren't the epic, system-selling figures that everyone hoped they would be.
Now, Electronic Arts itself is adding more fuel to the fire: during the Technology, Internet & Media Conference, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen almost confirmed that Titanfall 2 won't be an Xbox exclusive.
"Last year it was on the Xbox only; in the future, we haven't yet announced, but we'll probably have another Titanfall game. It will probably be a bigger footprint than just a single platform. I think that's a huge positive for us."
It's not exactly the most subtle announcement, is it?
Granted, from a purely technical standpoint, Titanfall 2 hasn't been announced yet. There's no confirmation out there that Respawn Entertainment and EA are working on a sequel, and there's no confirmation that said sequel will be available on other consoles.
However, it's highly likely: the game has sold over three million copies, and expanding to the PlayStation 4 (let's be honest,Titanfall 2 isn't coming to the Wii U) would only help boost sales. It'd be a smart move on EA's part, though Microsoft probably isn't too happy about the new deal.
Either way, there's a good chance that if Titanfall 2 is in development, fans will get to see it at this year's E3 in June.
