Furious 7, to put it lightly, has had a tumultuous production. The tragic death of Paul Walker had many thinking that the movie - and possibly the franchise itself - was done and over with. It's hard enough to lose the series' lead to something like a contract debate, but when he passes away during the middle of filming the movie? At a certain point, most would think it would just be easier to wrap up and head home.
Thankfully, that's not what happened. Thanks to Walker's family, the movie re-entered production, and the film is finally back on track for release. The studio has been teasing fans with behind-the-scenes glimpses and teasers for weeks now, and while a short trailer was aired during the Super Bowl, it's about time for another full trailer:
It's a surprisingly somber trailer...for the first half, at least. The opening shots are quieter and far darker than anyone would expect, and it feels as if the trailer isn't just making references to the passing of Paul Walker, but looking back through the history of the franchise as well.
Of course, it all breaks down into explosions and dubstep halfway through - not necessarily a bad thing, but it does feel a bit out of place following such a somber opening. It's incredibly gratuitous and completely over-the-top: basically, everything that Fast & Furious fans want.
Plus, who doesn't want to see Dwayne Johnson hit Jason Statham with a Rock Bottom?
That alone is reason enough to go out, buy a ticket and see the movie on opening night.
Furious 7 hits theaters on April 3.
