The latest software update released by Amazon for its eligible Kindle devices are now looking to transform the eBook reading experience for users, with new features set to offer better ways to enjoy reading a book.

Instead of relying on Kindle's physical buttons to turn a page, Amazon will now allow users to use a control that only requires them to double tap on their devices to go to the next one.

Alongside this new control feature on Kindle, Amazon also added several nifty features and experiences that are set to transform the e-reader experience for users, with its rollout available to a wide variety of the device's editions.

Amazon Kindle Update: Double-tap to Turn the eBook Page

Amazon has released the latest version of Kindle's software, v.5.18.1, an update that offers users the ability to double tap on the device and turn the page. Through this feature, users may double-tap physically on the device, either on its side or at the back of Kindle e-readers to turn the pages.

However, it does not stop there. Amazon is also allowing users to change its functions via the Settings under the Device Options menu.

According to the Good E-Reader's report, Amazon's new feature may be relying on the accelerometer that is available on various Kindle devices to detect the double-tap gesture for specific functions.

That being said, the latest update also offers another feature for Kindle owners to enjoy, with "Recaps for Books in Series" now available to access via the eBook reader. This feature offers summaries of thousands of English language Kindle books that users purchased or borrowed from the store.

It helps users get an overview of a book, either before they buy or borrow it, or when transitioning into the series or its sequels.

Amazon Kindle and Its Features

Amazon's Kindle is one of the most famous and feature-packed e-readers there is on the market, and throughout the years, it has proven to be one of the top alternatives to actual books. Last year, it was classified as one of the top devices for different formats of the eBook, offering ease in reading, portability, notable battery life, and its iconic features.

While Kindle has been used for reading various types of books and publications, the company has since expanded its literature. Towards the end of 2023, Amazon's acquired company, Comixology, brought comic books directly to the e-reader platform.
