Nintendo's GameCube Controller Is Back? New Filing Hints at Wireless Version for Switch 2

The new Nintendo Switch 2 could welcome a GameCube library of games for online gaming.

The Nintendo Switch 2, projected to sell six million units in the first quarter, is hotly anticipated by gamers everywhere. While Nintendo has yet to reveal details officially, a new FCC filing gives more insight to what its game controller may be.

Perhaps, this filing may excite the GameCube fans as this might hint that more GameCube classics are coming via the Nintendo Switch Online service soon.

FCC Filing Suggests Wireless GameCube Controller

According to the FCC filing, the GameCube controller could be enabled by Bluetooth.

Internet sleuths, particularly from Famiboards, have examined the filing and concluded that one of the photos depicts a label placement that exactly fits the back of a GameCube controller, where the label is located behind the C-Stick.

While there's a chance this might be a new Switch 2 Pro Controller, the majority of speculation points toward it being a wireless GameCube controller. This is in line with Nintendo's current trend of providing classic wireless controllers for retro gaming on the Nintendo Switch Online service.

Are GameCube Games Possible on Nintendo Switch Online?

The rumor doesn't end at merely the controller. Fans are now looking at whether a GameCube library will appear on Nintendo Switch Online. Nintendo has gradually grown its library of classic games on the service, adding NES, SNES, N64, Sega Genesis, and Game Boy games, according to IGN. Yet GameCube titles have been nowhere to be seen, even though there has been consistent fan interest over the years.

If the new controller is actually for playing GameCube games, it would probably mean Nintendo is going to bring a GameCube library on its subscription platform.

"Super Smash Bros. Melee", "The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker," "Mario Kart: Double Dash!!," and "Metroid Prime" are some popular titles that might return on the platform.

A GameCube controller for the Switch 2 would be a great idea for a number of reasons. First, the GameCube controller is still popular among gamers, especially for titles such as "Super Smash Bros. Ultimate," where many players prefer it over contemporary options.

Second, if Nintendo is going to bring back GameCube games on the Switch 2, providing a compatible controller would improve the experience so that players can experience the nostalgia with original controls.

Additionally, Nintendo has a tradition of launching retro controllers to accompany its online service. The NES, SNES, and N64 controllers have all been launched in wireless form, appealing to gamers who desire a more original gaming experience when playing classic games.

Of course, the Big N will include it with a catch. The closest thing to come to mind is the premium subscription which is slightly pricier than the regular subscription.
