After six long years since the last Valve VR headset, the company is rumored to be working on a new premium one that may come out this year, which is reportedly codenamed "Deckard."
It is said to be another standalone VR headset from Valve that give users an upgraded immersive gaming experience.
One of the biggest rumors behind the device is its possible price tag, which puts it in the high-end range. According to rumors, the starting price of this device is at $1,200.
Valve 'Deckard' VR Headset Rumored for This Year
Known Valve leaker Gabe Follower has shared a new set of information about the rumored VR headset known thus far as Deckard. According to the leaker, the company is allegedly planning to release it this year.
This may just be the standalone VR headset that has been rumored to be under development from Valve throughout the years, and the company reportedly aims to offer the "best possible experience" for users with this device.
This revelation follows an earlier leak about its controllers under the codename "Roy" that was found in the previous Steam VR update. Valve reportedly already has "in-house" games and demos available to launch alongside it.
Lastly, the Deckard VR headset is rumored to run a modified version of the SteamOS that powers the Steam Deck handheld but will be tweaked for VR experiences.
High-End Valve VR Headset at $1,200 Price Tag
The leaker also shared that Valve is planning to sell the headset's bundle, including the Roy controllers, for a starting price of $1,200.
However, despite this hefty price tag, it has been rumored that Valve will still be selling it at a loss.
Several people have confirmed that Valve is aiming to release new standalone, wireless VR headset (codename Deckard) by the end of 2025. The current price for the full bundle is set to be $1200. Valve's Foray Into VR
Way back in 2019, Valve decided to take on the VR world and deliver massive experiences for users with a first-party device that is on par with competitors like then-Oculus Quest, HTC's VIVE, and more. This is the Valve Index VR headset, and it gave the world a spec-packed headset that offers a sub 4K resolution of 1440p LCDs with a 120Hz refresh rate that can reach up to 144Hz with its experimental mode.
That being said, Valve has positioned its VR headset as a premium device, and it is among the most expensive ones in the market with its suggested retail price of $999.
Over the past years, there have also been rumors about Valve's development of a standalone VR headset that will succeed the Index wearable and offer a more modern experience for all. That rumor might just become a reality with the device codenamed 'Deckard."
