A new feature from Meta is now under testing on Instagram. The company is testing a dislike button for the comments section that seeks to enhance user experience.

First, the new dislike button will be exclusively available for the comments section only, and it will not be meant to target posts by a user where other accounts may spam dislikes.

For the longest time, the platform that featured a dislike button is the social news aggregator Reddit, which gave the public a chance to view the top-liked comments that may be helpful.

Instagram Is Now Testing a Dislike Button For Comments

Instagram users have been talking about seeing a new feature that comes in the form of a dislike button on the platform, with the company not mentioning anything about its legitimacy or confirming it.

A user on Instagram who was part of the test was able to share a screenshot of the said dislike button, showing a down arrow button beside the heart/like button in the comments section.

After many users started questioning the company about this new button, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri confirmed that it is a new feature on Instagram, and this helps give people a private way of disliking a comment.

Reddit is known for offering an upvote and downvote button on its platform, which significantly helps in the forum-like experiences on the platform and makes it an effective way to gather information about certain topics.

How Will the New Dislike Button Work on Instagram?

As explained by the Instagram CEO, the dislike button on Instagram would first and foremost be available in the comments section only, and it would be a private experience for users. What this means is that the account getting a dislike for their comment would not see who disapproved their sentiments and avoid being targeted.

On the other hand, users would see the top-liked comment on top of the page, while those who get disliked will rank below among others.

Instagram's Latest Features From Meta

One of the largest social media platforms in the world is Instagram, and it is one of the most important acquisitions of Meta that paid off for the company. Towards the end of last year, Meta worked on giving Instagram the instant messaging app treatment by sharing the scheduled messages feature for DMs.

Despite the public's wishes to have a chronological feed, Meta instead pushed the algorithmic experience that lets users see the top posts with high engagement. The good thing with this is that Meta made sure to include a way to reset personal recommendations on one's account to get a refreshed experience on Instagram.

Instagram sure has changed a lot since it was acquired by Meta, with some saying that it became worse. However, there are still many things to appreciate, especially as it tries to be competitive against other platforms.
