Activision Blizzard may have ended support for the "DMZ" mode back in late 2023 as it focused on the other game modes available for "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III," but new rumors claimed that it is set to return soon. The latest leaks revealed that with the "Call of Duty" 2026 release, DMZ mode will make its grand and much-awaited comeback as it became one of the most popular experiences since its introduction three years ago.
The extraction-type action shooter game mode has garnered a cult following among "Call of Duty" fans, and while it is not exactly removed from the game, it remains unsupported by the latest mainline game.
'Call of Duty' 2026 Will See the DMZ Mode's Comeback
There is a new rumor from the renowned and trusted leaker, TheGhostOfHope, which brings massive news for all DMZ fans, as there are rumors circulating forums claiming that the beloved mode is making a comeback real soon. Activision Blizzard had previously ended support for the DMZ mode in "Modern Warfare III," and this left many gamers without continued updates and new content.
The CODWarfareForum first discovered evidence behind DMZ being reworked for "Call of Duty's" 2026 release, with the game mode being referenced in "Black Ops 6" beta files despite not being part of the title.
Despite this evidence, GameRant reported that fans are still skeptical that the DMZ mode will be part of next year's AAA-rated release from Activision Blizzard under the "COD" franchise, particularly as it is already facing massive competition in the market.

What Is 'Call of Duty's" 'DMZ' Mode All About?
"Call of Duty's" DMZ mode features an extraction-based mode set in the first-person game's world, which initially started with the Al Mazrah map and later expanded with Ashika Island, Vondel, and special maps like Building 21 and Koschei Complex. Players were required to complete contract missions so that they would be eligible for a streak when they exfil, and it features a mix of both human players and bots to fight against.
The Latest 'Call of Duty' Experiences
After spending a long time remaking games from its massive collection, Activision Blizzard decided that it was now time for "Modern Warfare" to take a step back and return to its original development of new titles for the world to enjoy. Last year's mainline release focused on "Call of Duty: Black Ops 6" which doubled down on the stealth-action sub-series of the company, also making it their first title under Microsoft.
The latest title from Activision Blizzard reverted the franchise to the 'deep government' storyline that centers on a fictional conspiracy about the dark forces looking to take over the US government. Apart from the many new features like "omnimovement," Raven Software's associate director previously revealed that "Black Ops 6" will only get one (1) ending, unlike previous releases.
It is also important to note that "Warzone 2.0," the game's dedicated multiplayer and battle royale experience, still sees continued development from Activision Blizzard, offering massive seasons and drops for all. While the DMZ is still available to play via "Warzone 2.0," that will soon change with "Call of Duty's" 2026 release, as it will make a comeback to bring the extraction-mode experience back for all of its fans.
