New year, new prices are the latest deal from Netflix, and the top global streaming company introduced its first price hike of the year which is up by as much as 16 percent off its previous pricing. This latest price increase from Netflix is affecting all tiers of the platform, including its base subscription which offers the ad-supported tier, with four countries being the first to face this new pricing.
That being said, the last price increase from the renowned streaming platform was way back in late 2023, with the company leaving alone its subscription costs in 2024, but have made a significant change this year.
Netflix Price Hike Brings The First Increase of 2025
According to the latest fourth quarter 2024 earnings report by Netflix, the company has seen massive profits from the last three months of the previous year, sharing that it saw as many as 18.9 million new subscribers joining the platform. Despite these increased numbers, the company also announced via its letter to shareholders that the company is increasing its prices for this year.
Netflix shared that the price increase is essential for its plans to invest more in programming, a.k.a. adding more titles to its streaming platform and developing new original productions for customers.
According to Netflix, "As we continue to invest in programming and deliver more value for our members, we will occasionally ask our members to pay a little more so that we can re-invest to further improve Netflix."
The latest price increase by Netflix affects only four countries as of the moment, with the United States, Canada, Argentina, and Portugal facing the new rates. This price increase also came after Netflix reported that it gained a massive $10.25 billion in revenue in Q4 2024 alone.

Netflix Ups Subscriptions By As Much As 16%
The latest pricing from Netflix shares massive increases to all of its available tiers, and the most expensive one also got the highest price hike by as much as 16 percent.
- Standard with ads: $7.99 per month (previously $6.99)
- Standard without ads: $17.99 per month (previously $15.49)
- Premium: $24.99 per month (previously $22.99)
The Streaming Industry and Its Price Hikes
One of the largest price hikes from Netflix came last October 2023 when the company announced a price hike as the last quarter of the year entered, asking subscribers to pay as much as $23 per month for its Premium tier. That being said, this was when Netflix still had its ad-free Basic subscription which only cost users $11.99/month but has since been removed.
Last year saw multiple companies increase the subscription pricing of their streaming platforms, with one of the most notorious being Disney+ which also affected the main Disney+ platform, Hulu, ESPN, and its bundles. On the other hand, Paramount Plus also effected a price hike last year which increased by $1 to $2 for all of its tiers except the Paramount Plus Essential plan.
Almost the entire streaming industry increased their prices last year, and this includes the likes of Peacock and Max, following price hikes from Disney+ and Paramount Plus, with all promising better content for all. While Netflix's major price hike came only after more than a year, it would still be a burden for subscribers who are still looking to continue their commitment to the platform across all plans.
