Over the past weeks, Apple has been the center of controversy because of Apple Intelligence's big time errors, a.k.a. hallucinations on its notification summaries, which the company now temporarily paused. The move came in the latest iOS beta update from the Cupertino tech giant as they are looking to fix the issue plaguing the summarization of news content for users.
However, Apple had to take down the entire AI notification summaries feature off its availability among users who are already enjoying what Apple Intelligence has to offer for now while it is getting its much-needed fix.
Apple Intelligence's Notification Summaries Are Temporarily Paused
According to a new report from Engadget, the latest iOS 18.3 beta version has taken down one of the biggest features from Apple Intelligence, with Notification Summary now temporarily unavailable to users. Before this, users and news publications noticed that the news notification summaries that Apple Intelligence delivered to users shared fake news instead of factual information.
Many spotted this and claimed that Apple Intelligence is hallucinating, and because of this, Apple made a massive move to take the feature down for the time being, confirming last week that it is working on a fix for the problem.
Currently, Apple regards that the features found on Apple Intelligence are still in beta, meaning that these are still under testing and the company is working on improving these experiences in future iterations of their AI and iOS.

Apple Intelligence News Summaries Hallucinations Are Real
What was supposed to be smooth-sailing for Cupertino turned out to be the usual scene from generative AI technologies in the market, as Notification Summaries shared unintended fake news to users. Instead of summarizing the alerts from respective news and entertainment apps, it was speculated that Apple Intelligence only relied on the headline and jumped to conclusions regarding certain topics, leading to it sharing fake news.
For now, Apple has taken down the entire feature from being available on iOS 18.2 devices, and the company is also encouraging users to report issues they found with Notification Summary or other Apple Intelligence experiences.
Apple Intelligence Is Not Safe From Hallucinations
Hallucinations have been regular among generative AI developments from different companies, with this being a notorious issue that has been experienced by the top creators or developers. Google, Microsoft, Meta, OpenAI, and more have faced their fair share of problems regarding artificial intelligence hallucinations, and the curse continues even with the latest advancements in the industry.
The problem is still here and many users come across these problems from time to time, with the public growing heavily reliant on generative AI to deliver them the latest updates because of its new features that share real-time information. However, it is still advisable to rely on legitimate and real news that human writers researched, wrote, and verified to avoid falling victim to fabricated information.
Currently, developments in the AI space may still tend to spew misinformation or fabricated news to users, and it happens to even some of the best there, and Apple is not an exception to the said issues. That being said, the Cupertino tech giant is now working on giving its Notification Summary a fix but they had to take it down temporarily to avoid users receiving hallucinated information for the time being.
