Game of Thrones serves up some pretty epic feasts. Now you'll soon be able to dine like a Lannister, too.
HBO is opening up a Game of Thrones pop-up restaurant in London. The "one-of-a-kind epic banquet" will take place over three days from Feb. 13 to Feb. 15 at the Andaz Liverpool Street.
Guests will munch on "the finest delicacies Westeros has to offer over multiple courses, accompanied by a carefully selected drinks menu of cocktails fit for a King," according to the pop-up restaurant's website. That will apparently include a dish called "The Lies of Tyrion Lanninster and his Proclaimed Innocence," which is "Poached Veal Tongue with Beetroot, Horseradish and Oldtown Mustard," according to The Verge.
So who do you have to manipulate to attend this shindig? Luckily, it's a bit simpler than that. All you have to do is fill out an entry form to try to win a seat at the table for you and a friend.
The Game of Thrones pop-up restaurant is yet another initiative in a recent trend of famous TV shows bringing the experience of the show to life for fans. AMC constructed the Bates Motel at SXSW in Austin, Texas last year for its TV show of the same name. Doctor Who's TARDIS crash-landed in London last August. Friends fans were floored to be able to step inside Central Perk in New York last September. Just last month, you could have paid a visit to Abbi's apartment from Broad City if you were in New York.
In this digital age that we live in, it's interesting to see real-life experiences becoming en vogue again. It's probably because of all of the noise of the digital age that these promotions are put on anyway. They're a way of differentiating your show among all of the entertainment options available to people today, not to mention a way to get people off the computer so they don't stream some other TV show. The fact that visitors are very likely to snap photos at these attractions and share them on social media is obviously a big win for online engagement for your brand, too.
Even if the pop-up is just recreating a TV show set rather than displaying any props or costumes used in the actual production, fans are so passionate, they will show up anyway. There's something about stepping onto the same set you see your favorite characters in every week that feels really special.
So if you are one of the lucky winners that get to dine the Game of Thrones way, enjoy it. But whatever you do at the feast, maybe go a little light on the wine, huh?
