Nintendo Switch 2 Is Here and It is the Real Deal From Big Red

Leaks claimed that Nintendo will confirm and drop a trailer regarding its Switch 2 console this Thursday, and these people were accurate as the Japanese company shared the first-look showcase of their much-awaited successor. Nintendo is also calling the new gaming device the "Switch 2," and this is now the official name of the console despite avoiding calling it that in the past months.

That being said, Nintendo only showcased the black and matte-like colorway of the new Switch 2, and it is unlike the previous models that had a variety of colors to choose from, centering on both its body and Joy-Cons.

It is important to note that this is only a first-look trailer from Nintendo, and the company is still planning to share a full reveal of their latest console this April 2 via a dedicated Direct event.

Switch 2 Changes: Bigger Screen, New Joy-Cons, and MORE

Nintendo's Switch 2 trailer showed how the original Switch blossomed into this new gaming console, and it is a fullrevamp of the device from eight years ago. The Switch 2 will feature a bigger display for gamers that has significantly slimmer bezels.

On the other hand, the Switch 2's Joy-Con controllers also increased in size to match the screen, but its biggest upgrade is that it is now magnetically attached to the console's body. It remains unknown if Nintendo gave it hall-effect joysticks but these were also highlighted by the company.

Nintendo gave the Switch 2 two USB-C ports, adding one on top of the console, and the bottom one where it was originally located. The Big Red claimed that Switch 2 can still play both the digital and physical titles from the past-gen device, staying true to its promise from last year.

The successor console also improved on its rear kick-stand, especially as the original Switch only featured a small arm, while the Switch OLED covered the entire lower half.

Lastly, Nintendo featured the first game confirmed for the Switch 2, showing off what is believed to be "Mario Kart 9."

Nintendo Is About to Shake Things Up in the Gaming World

Early 2025 has been met with anticipations from fans and players who want to see the latest from Nintendo for this year, and many leaks from the industry previously predicted that come January, there will be a reveal.

While the Nintendo Switch OLED significantly increased the screen size of the console lineup from its original 6.2-inch screen to a 7-inch display with slimmer bezels, leaks claimed that the Switch 2 will feature an even bigger one. The said leak was first spotted thanks to a Switch 2 carry case that appeared on a listing via Alibaba's e-commerce platform, hinting at a larger but still portable console.

The other leaks that are now confirmed to be coming include the Switch 2's massive revamp of the Joy-Cons which are now magnetically attaching, its two USB-C ports, its new stand, and more. This first-look trailer shared a lot about what to expect from the Switch 2, and fans are already celebrating the new console despite the limited details, with a Direct event set to unveil more about its latest changes.
