Foursquare teams up with GrubHub Seamless to bring food to your home

Foursquare announced that it has teamed up with mobile and online food ordering company, GrubHub Seamless to offer easy and quick food ordering.

On Thusday, January 30, Foursquare confirmed that its partnership with GrubHub Seamless will connect diners and corporate businesses with more than 25,000 takeout restaurants in over 600 U.S. cities as well as in London.

Foursquare has rolled out a software update for its Android and iOS apps, which offers direct integration with GrubHub Seamless. The updated Foursquare app will now feature a new GrubHub Seamless icon at the bottom of the screen that will enable users to browse nearby restaurants to order food.

GrubHub was founded in 2004 and Seamless was founded in 1999. In 2013, both the companies merged to form GrubHub Seamless. The company sent more than $1 billion in gross food sales to local restaurants and takeaways in 2013 and processed around 150,000 orders on a daily basis. GrubHub Seamless has already served over 3 million unique diners in the last 12 months.

The GrubHub Seamless service is free to customers who place the order, but the company makes money by charging a small percentage of sales from the participating restaurants.

Users can also specifically look out for GrubHub Seamless restaurants by searching for their cuisine type and adding the word "delivery" at the end of the search. For instance a user search for "pizza delivery" will return restaurants only from the GrubHub Seamless network. However, Foursquare has matched its own restaurant database with the GrubHub Seamless database to identify participating restaurants.

Neither Foursquare nor GrubHub Seamless have disclosed the financial details of the latest partnership between the two companies.

Foursquare has also introduced an improved version of maps for its desktop service in partnership with Mapbox. The new mapping service highlights an individual's neighborhoods, landmarks and other places of interest. The overall design of Foursquare mapping service is now in line with the rest of its website.

The Foursquare app is available as a free download from both Google Play and the App store. The app is compatible with iOS 7 or later, or Android 2.2 and above.
