Sony Draws Nostalgia with PlayStation 30th Anniversary Limited-Edition Items—Do You Dig 90s Grey?

PlayStation's limited-edition items for its 30th year are all grey.

Sony is digging deep into its roots with its upcoming PlayStation 30th Anniversary celebration as the company announced its latest limited-edition products that will be sold in November. With this celebration, Sony is doing a massive throwback to the original PlayStation console, which came in the grey colorway, and this specific look would be available to its modern gaming devices, including accessories.

From the PS2 until the PS4, the PlayStation's default color has been black, only changing its look with 2020's PS5, which featured the primarily white console, but has since offered multiple customization options for users.

Sony's PlayStation 30th Anniversary Limited-Edition Items Bring the 90s Grey

In the latest blog post by PlayStation, Sony has confirmed that its PlayStation 30th Anniversary celebration will bring more than praise for its console, as it will feature limited-edition items to be available soon.

The main focus of these new 30th anniversary limited-edition products is bringing back the 90s grey which has been the color scheme of the original PlayStation, a.k.a. the PS1.

First, there would be a PlayStation 5 Digital Edition 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Bundle for 2023's PS5 release. It has a digital version console with grey covers, a separate disc drive cover, a vertical stand, a DualSense wireless controller in retro PlayStation colors, and collector's items.

Next is the PS5 Pro bundle, which also brings the console itself with retro grey covers, a separate disc drive cover, a DualSense Edge with the original PlayStation controller design, a vertical stand, and collector's items.

In terms of accessories, there would be a PlayStation Portal, a DualSense Edge with a carry pouch and other accessories, and a regular DualSense, all in PlayStation's retro grey.

Here's When PlayStation's 30th Anniversary Greys Will be Available

Sony has not unveiled the pricing on its PlayStation 30th Anniversary Limited-Edition bundles and products, but it claimed that preorders will start next week, September 26. PlayStation would then ship these orders by November 21.

Only 12,300 units of the PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary console would be released, and it would be marked with limited edition markings, said PlayStation.

Retro Everything for Sony's PlayStation

One of the most surprising retro experiences from Sony themselves was the PlayStation Classic which offered a mini console featuring the PS1's look, two controllers, and twenty original games under one bundle.

In terms of hardware, PS5 has made customization easier for users as console covers can be replaced, but there was one cheap and nifty way of transforming the current-gen device to bring a retro feel by adding colors to its logo.

Users can also expand more on their retro PlayStation experiences with the iconic PlayStation Plus subscription whichoffers PS1 games to be accessible on modern gaming platforms.

Sony already has a massive experience awaiting gamers who want to relive their 90s gaming with the PlayStation with the retro titles available. However, if that is not yet enough, Sony's latest offers are giving purists a chance to go back to them with their PS5 consoles in the original PS1 grey, complete with retro DualSense controllers, and other accessories.
