Apple Adds Brazil in Its iPhone 16 Assembly Line, Joining India and Lessens Reliance on China

iPhone 16s are now coming from Brazil, via Foxconn's facility.

The iPhone 16 series will soon arrive for pre-orders, and a discovery points to Brazil being one of Apple's assembly lines for producing the latest smartphone. This move by Cupertino will not remove its previous countries of operation, as Brazil will join China and India in its development.

For the longest time, Apple has assembled its devices in China, but it looks to lessen its reliance on the country, adding India to its list.

Apple Adds Brazil in Its Assembly Line for the iPhone 16

MacMagazine revealed that Apple shifted its iPhone 16 assembly again, but this time, to the closer South American country, Brazil. This was revealed by the iPhone 16's regulatory filings in Brazil, marking a new focus by Apple turning to the largest Latin American country for its tech development.

Furthermore, the assembly has started on Foxconn's Jundiaí, São Paulo facility. However, it was revealed that Apple previously used this facility to produce iPhones.

That being said, this would be the first time Apple will assemble new iPhones from the start of its production.

China, India, and Brazil are Where the iPhone 16's Come From

The report also stated that only the base iPhone 16 models would come from Brazil in this initial run. Apple's other assembly line would join it in two main hubs in the Asian continent, China and India.

It was revealed that the more expensive and premium versions of the iPhone 16 series would arrive from China and India, but it was not specified which models are coming from either country.

This follows Apple's move to reduce its reliance on China after various years of leaning toward the East Asian superpower to assemble its devices.

Through this move, Apple's export of iPhones would be faster to the countries where its assembly line is located, contrary to previous timelines that could take up to a month.

Apple is Diversifying Its Outsourcing of Tech Assembly

California has been the home of Apple for the longest time, and this has also been the site of its assembly for its different devices, including past parts production. However, Apple has since moved to China when it outsourced its parts development and assembly, and it has been this way for a long time.

However, last year spelled a different path for Apple's iPhone assembly, as it was reported that it is moving its production to India to reduce its reliance on China.

The iPhone 15 production marked Apple's shift to India, but its assembly line in Vietnam joined its diversified approach.

Reports claimed that Apple's shift was partly because of reducing its reliance on China, but it was also revealed that labor costs are higher in the region compared to India. That said, Apple has made another move in iPhone 16's development, but this time turning to the South American region, under Foxconn's Brazil facility.
