SpaceX launched the Polaris Dawn mission aboard its Crew Dragon atop the Falcon 9 last week, and it began its five-day spectacle which checked off multiple milestones, being this week's top story on Tech Times Weekly Wrap. On the other hand, there is the iconic return of the Chromecast with Google TV devices on the Google Store after its several weeks of absence.
There is also Apple's memory upgrade for the entire iPhone 16 series which now features 8GB of RAM and was meant to feature this because of its AI.
Polaris Dawn's Historic Mission Successfully Reaches Orbit
SpaceX has made history alongside Polaris Dawn as it embarked on its feats towards different accolades, one that hasultimately marked a significant moment in humanity's space travels. Its four crewmembers, Jared Isaacman, Scott Poteet, Sarah Gillis, and Anna Menon went on their journey aboard the Crew Dragon where they stayed in space for a total of five days.
Dragon took the crew to the 'farthest point' in the Earth's orbit where it stayed at over 870 miles from the planet since the Apollo missions, thrice as much as where the International Space Station is located.
The Polaris Dawn set out on its historic spacewalk which featured the civilian astronauts going out of the spacecraft, wearing their SpaceX-made EVA suits. They also tested Starlink's internet from a deeper part of space, alongside other scientific research.
Chromecast is Back on the Google Store Alongside TV Streamer
After being missing for as much as two weeks, Chromecast with Google TV is now back on the Google Store, and it seems to be for good until its stocks deplete. This was initially removed when the internet giant moved forward with its release of the Google TV Streamer, a device that was touted to replace the Chromecast dongles with a tabletop black box.
Venturing over to the Google Store, the company now offers both Chromecast and Google TV Streamer as part of its streaming options for entertainment and more.
Google offers both variants of the streaming dongle with Chromecast with Google TV (4K) available at $49.99, alongside its older and cheaper option, Chromecast with Google TV (HD) for only $29.99.
All the iPhone 16 Gets 8GB of RAM for Apple Intelligence
There were initial rumors that the iPhone 16 lineup would have a memory bump, and while Apple did not expand on this during the It's Glowtime event, it is now confirmed that the latest smartphones now feature 8GB of RAM. This was confirmed by Apple's senior vice president of hardware technologies, Johny Srouji, and this was intended as part of its anticipated Apple Intelligence capabilities.
With this two-gigabyte increase from iPhone 15's 6GB, the smartphones are now more than capable of running Apple's machine learning models for when it arrives by October.
However, this interview with Srouji also revealed that this was the first time Apple clarified RAM specs for its iPhones, ensuring the public that iPhone 16s can handle Apple Intelligence.
