The British Army is training soldiers to fly unmanned aircraft systems of explosives, which they use in one-way missions. These "kamikaze drones" look like those that the Ukrainian' Armed Forces employed successfully.

Footage of soldiers knot-wearing VR headsets or using gaming joysticks to train how to fly these FPV UAS is emerging. The MoD understands the efficiency in use of these drones more so exhibiting unparalleled features such as their ability for aerial maneuverability and the ability to annihilate armored trained vehicles.

According to the UK-based newspaper The Sun, the local Non-Governmental Organization is known as Project Lewes and the jHub Drone Academy.

Under Project Lewes also known as the Army's technology insertion program that's been seeing troops trained at the jHub Drone Academy. The Strategic Command's directorate called the jHub was to help in the growth of the implementation of technology in the military force.

Training and Equipment

Parrot and Black Hornet UAS are still actively employed by soldiers for reconnaissance purposes. Nevertheless, FPV drones or the "kamikaze drones" are a little more difficult to control because of the lack of such features as GPS and stabilization. This makes them less susceptible to jamming and more effective in engagements.

Benefits of FPV UAS

Former operations sergeant major in the Parachute Regiment of the British Army, Adam Barnes said that FPV UAS had its merits.

Barnes said that they had comparative advantages over conventional drones due to their simplicity and flexibility, and the costs of manufacturing them are considerably low.

FPV UAS is effective in reconnaissance, and for strike missions as well it shortens the kill chain and offers more choices to commanders.

"An infantry unit equipped with FPV UAS can fly them to attack targets that it would otherwise have to call in mortars, artillery, or an air strike to hit," he added.

Drone Racing and Tactical Skills

The training program from Point Zenith includes FPV drone flying through different objects and a racing simulator. 2 PARA has indicated that they have a drone racing club that aims at ensuring that the soldiers develop a spirit of practicing the talent that they have in this field.

What the Soldiers Experienced So Far

More testimonies came from Lance Corporal Morgan McConnell of the 3rd Battalion The Parachute Regiment on the usage of FPV drones. He said that he had fewer problems with maneuvering them compared to ordinary drones yet he was excited about the technology and how it can be useful on the battlefield.

Speaking of kamikaze drones, the Russian "Shahed" drones were reportedly shot down outside Belarus, according to Kyiv Post. The reports said that two blasts took place between 1:34 AM and 1:36 AM.
