The widely believed claim which said that mobile phones could cause users brain cancer because of their radio waves is not as legitimate as people thought based on a recently published review backed by the World Health Organization (WHO). The study found "no link" between mobile phones and brain cancers, saying that either has no association with the other.
It has been a common belief that talking for a long time or frequent use of mobile devices through handset calling can cause a type of brain cancer, but apparently, it was misleading.
Mobile Phones Cannot Give You Brain Cancer According to Latest Review
The Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA) conducted a systematic review backed by the World Health Organization regarding how mobile phones cause users to develop brain cancer in the future. In their extensive review, ARPANSA concluded that there are mobile phones have no links to developing a type of brain cancer.
It also noted that other forms of head and neck cancers have no links to mobile phones.
The review highlighted the International Agency for Research on Cancer's (IARC) classification of mobile phones, placing it under the "possibly carcinogenic" list in 2013. According to the review's lead author, Professor Ken Karipidis, the IARC's 11-year-old study was based on limited evidence only.
WHO-Backed Review Explored Large Datasets to Make Its Case
With this systematic review, ARPANSA scrubbed through over 5,000 studies about this ordeal, with these researches done between 1994 and 2022, making it an extensive dive into brain cancer's link to mobile phones.
Professor Karipidis claimed in a recent statement that exposure to radio waves via wireless devices like mobile or smartphones "is not a human health hazard."
Radio Waves, Mobile Phones, and Cancers
The question of cellular or mobile phones causing cancer has been around for decades now, and since the emergence of these portable devices, users have been torn about their use. There have been many massive claims that cell phones are among the top reasons behind brain cancer because of their electronic radiation and use of radio waves according to previous studies.
France's National Frequency Agency also highlighted this only last year, and it has since asked Apple to pull the iPhone 12 series from its stores because of its high radiation levels.
It is also important to note that an Italian court also believed that mobile phones can cause brain tumors to its users, and has sided with the plaintiff who fought against telcos after manifesting the tumors.
However, the tech industry has since pushed back against these claims, with Apple claiming this information is fake, especially about its iPhone 12.
ARPANSA's latest study took a deep dive into this issue and found that there are no links between mobile phones and brain cancers, proving this previous belief wrong.
