The local government agency heading Greater London's transportation, Transport for London (TfL), revealed that it was hit with an ongoing cyberattack. Not much is known regarding the attack against the transportation authorities, and it is yet to identify what kind of cybercrime has occurred.

However, TfL had one important thing to confirm amidst this cyberattack, and it is ensuring that data is safe from the perpetrators or systems that intruded against the still unknown target within the agency.

Transport for London recently unveiled that it has been hit with an ongoing cyberattack which began recently, and the transport authorities are now investigating the said problem. TfL and the entire Greater London community still do not know why such an attack occurred, as well as how long has passed since it was accessed by the also unknown threat actors.

Moreover, they still have no idea as to what part of its system was accessed and if it is a significant threat.

For now, TfL is working with government agencies to get to the root of this issue and respond accordingly against the threat actors.

Despite being clueless about the cyberattack, TfL assured the public that customer data is safe, claiming that there is no evidence that these are compromised. Additionally, TfL claimed that its services were not affected by the recent attack and will continue its normal operations in the Greater London area.

Transport for London also said that it has already taken "immediate action" to protect its systems and to "prevent further access" by the unknown assailants.

According to TfL, it will share updates once the issue has been resolved.

Growing Cyberattacks Worldwide

Cyberattacks come in various forms, scopes, severities, and more as threat actors have made it a point to improve more of their hacks in this growing digital world. Recently, the United States National Public Data was claimed to be illegally accessed by criminals, and these bad actors were able to steal 2.7 billion records and later expose personal information to hacking forums.

The transportation industry worldwide has also seen massive vulnerabilities that hackers may take advantage of to sow chaos, causing significant harm and risks to motorists. This centers on a recently discovered critical issue on traffic lights where bad actors could access the systems to change traffic to anything they want to, having full control of its systems.

While the reason behind threat actors' actions against government agencies or public services remains unknown, these attacks could lead to significant damages and problems for authorities.

TfL is facing a significant problem now as the cyberattack is still ongoing, with the transportation service oblivious to the nature of it and what was taken by the unknown hackers.
