Windows’ Control Panel to Stay, Microsoft Clarifies Now After Trending Last Week

No, Windows' Settings would not officially replace Control Panel.

After massive news last week saw significant attention from the public, Microsoft is now clarifying that it is not removing the Control Panel and its functionalities in the Windows operating system. This was because of a support document from Microsoft that talked about the Control Panel "being deprecated" as it prioritizes the Settings app available on Windows.

One of the longest existing programs on Windows is the Control Panel, already seeing a nearly 40-year-old availability on its computer OS, and news about it being removed was a shock for many globally.

The latest update on Microsoft's support document under the System configuration tools in Windows now clarifies that the Control Panel will not yet be removed on computers. This latest change was spotted by online users who closely followed the recent debacle which became viral last week, talking about Microosoft's shutdown of the legacy component.

Reports have previously claimed that Microsoft has decided on sunsetting Control Panel after 39 years, one that would focus users on accessing the Settings for system changes.

From these, many have rushed to react against the news, but Microsoft was quick to backtrack on the inaccurate wordings it used which shocked the public.

Control Panel to Live On, No Deprecation In Favor of Settings

In the new support document, Microsoft said that most of the settings found on the Control Panel are "in the process of being migrated to the Settings app."

This clarification is taking back what Microsoft said last week, as cached by the Web Archive, which originally said that the Control Panel is "being deprecated."

Windows and Its Legacy Experiences from Microsoft

There are many applications and experiences from Microsoft that still live on, with Windows carrying these legacy platforms despite its rivals in the modern computing world. One of the most popular examples of this is the Paint whichdebuted in 1985, and there are no signs of this being discontinued anytime soon as Microsoft brought massive updates to it that could help remove backgrounds on images.

Additionally, there is also the renowned Windows application from the famed Microsoft Office Suite which was firstintroduced in 1983 known as Microsoft Word. The developments continue for this renowned document platform, and it is available to purchase as software or via the Office 365 subscription, recently receiving Copilot AI upgrades that offers generative AI for writing.

It is also important to note that other applications are still existing despite being over 40 years old, and among those is the renowned Notepad.

Microsoft may have made a mistake in its support document last week, but it has now changed its wording to let the world know that Windows' Control Panel is staying.
