The latest 2,492-carat diamond remains unnamed, but it is already dubbed as the "largest diamond in over a century." The record holder from over 100 years ago was the Cullinan, best known as a massive 3,106-carat diamond that wasfound in South Africa in 1905, famously cut into gems, and is part of the British Crown jewels.

Shiny Diamonds and Their Massive Values

There are only a few things that hold value in this world over time, and among those are diamonds, best known to be from the carbon element, taking on a solid form after its atom forms a crystal structure. Two years ago, one of the rarest diamonds called "The Enigma" or the "outer space diamond" with a 555.55-carat measurement, was purchased by HEX.com's founder for as much as $4.3 million in crypto.

Diamonds are best known for being found through mining, spending years, and significant manpower in looking for these gems under the Earth, usually by massive companies.

According to scientists, there may be massive "blobs" that can be found on the Earth's mantle and are rich with elements such as iron, carbon, and water-claiming that a "Diamond Factory" may also be present.

The history of diamonds is notorious, but it remains one of the most precious gems in the world after all these years, making it one of the best-known and sought-after minerals in the market. Lucara's recent discovery in Botswana presented the largest diamond of our time and in the past century, with the 2,492-carat gem estimated to fetch more than $100 million in the market.
