A recent cyberattack targeted oilfield services company Halliburton in the past few days, and this led to the company taking down several of its systems and launching an investigation into it. The company recently confirmed the incident claiming that third-party entities that remain unknown had gained access to its systems, and have yet to reveal how it was affected.

For now, Halliburton remains operational and will continue with its energy services provided to the United States.

Reuters reported that Halliburton announced on Friday that a cyberattack took place within the company's systems, citing that unknown parties could gain access to the company. It was then revealed that the oilfield services company only got the notion that third-party entities were able to access their accounts two days ago.

With this, the company has now launched an investigation to find out the people behind this, as well as determine the extent of this breach.

That being said, the US Department of Energy has confirmed that despite the attack on Halliburton, its energy services were not impacted.

Halliburton: Some Systems Offline for Investigation

As part of its measures in its investigations, Halliburton has now taken down its specific systems for the time being and will resume them in the progression of their probe. Halliburton has yet to comment on what specific part of their systems was accessed by threat actors and what data or information was taken.

Notorious Cyberattacks in the US

Earlier this year, it was revealed that Microsoft had been hacked for over a year before the company was able to fix this issue, affecting both its Windows 10 and latest Windows 11 operating systems. It was revealed that this was because of a zero-day vulnerability that was discovered by threat actors on Internet Explorer, a browser that has since been retired by Microsoft.

Apple has also been a victim of a massive cyberattack that lasted for 10 years, and throughout a decade, iOS and macOS apps were reportedly vulnerable to being accessed by bad actors. It was revealed that iOS and macOS apps built under CocoaPods were the ones facing this vulnerability, particularly as it integrates third-party code into programs.

However, it is not only tech companies that are facing hacks and being targeted by groups in this day and age, especially as most companies now rely on technological systems in the digital world. Halliburton's latest suffering from a cyberattack was confirmed, but it remains unknown who was behind it and how much was affected, now focusing on getting to the bottom of it.
