There is a new XR headset that is brewing from Microsoft according to a new set of leaks and rumors, with the software company said to be looking to rival Apple's Vision Pro. It remains unknown if Microsoft's latest developments would focus on a successor to its HoloLens 2, the last release of the company which is also known as a mixed-reality wearable.
If this translates to an actual product in the future, it would be the third in Microsoft's wearable, expanding more of its mixed-reality offers from the last generation.
Microsoft Working on XR Headset to Rival Vision Pro Says Leaks

Korean analyst and tech news source, The Elec, has shared a new claim that details a new mixed-reality headset that Microsoft is working on, claiming that the company has made a massive order to Samsung for its display. This new XR display is now requiring large orders of this advanced display from the Korean tech giant, meant for entertainment, media, and gaming.
It remains unknown what would be the name of the next headset, but it was reported that it would rival the Apple Vision Pro, the first and most popular XR wearable at this time.
Apart from Apple, Microsoft's next mixed-reality headset would also bump heads with the likes of Samsung, Google, and Qualcomm with their joint venture, as well as Japanese tech giant, Sony.
The Next Microsoft HoloLens? Samsung to Make Its Display
It was not yet revealed if this would be a successor to the HoloLens, with 2019's HoloLens 2 best known for offering mixed-reality capabilities. Online users who have information about it claimed that Samsung's micro OLED display is what Microsoft wants for the new wearable headset, asking for "hundreds of thousands" of units for its rumored device.
XR Battle: Microsoft's HoloLens vs. Apple Vision Pro
There already have been two releases from Microsoft for its HoloLens, with its first edition banking heavily on augmented reality but also offering several VR features. However, the HoloLens 2 is best known to be the full-fledged mixed-reality headset, but it came at a $3,500 price tag and was meant for businesses to use, much similar to Apple's recent release.
On the other hand, Apple's Vision Pro was one of the most-hyped announcements of 2023 and a sought-after device when it first dropped in the US earlier this year. It also featured a $3,500 price tag, and it was meant to be in the premium range as Cupertino said it was meant for developers, one that would help expand its program, but offered significant entertainment and gaming features.
Massive comparisons were made between the HoloLens 2 and the Vision Pro, but the latest and more modern won more of the hearts and interests of the public because of its special computer capabilities. Now that mixed-reality has taken the world by storm, Microsoft is looking to get back on the horse again with its mixed-reality headset, with Samsung making its micro OLED display, unknown if it would be the next HoloLens.
