These companies' offers via ChinaJoy only highlight how generative AI made its way to gaming, offering more to other firms looking to expand their content. It was highlighted by Tencent that AI in gaming dates back to the early 1990s, but the introduction of generative AI may bring more than what traditional AI can offer, especially in creating content for future executions.
Generative AI for Games is on the Rise
As the world is currently embracing or adapting to the massive boom of generative AI in the tech industry, one of its applications includes game development, but it still splits the industry of whether it should be used. The renowned French game development company, Ubisoft, has made it known that it supports generative AI, also claiming that it helps in creating dialogue for its titles.
Big Tech has also seen its fair share of companies that are looking forward to this future, with Google DeepMind leveraging its Genie AI model that could turn photos into games.
On the other hand, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang has previously claimed that fully generated games are coming in less than ten years, with its GPUs amidst it all.
Despite this massive adoption in the gaming world, there are still companies who are against it, and Nintendo is among those who would only use traditional AI for its games, but not the latest generation's generative AI. Tech companies are now leveraging their AI tools as a technology to help in game development, debuted by Amazon, Microsoft, and Tencent via ChinaJoy.
