After making likes on X private, the company faced an issue where it was still visible for public users to see, and the company is now clarifying that this was because of a 'security incident' it faced recently. It is known that this significant move on X, formerly Twitter, was controversial, as the company advocated making an account's liked posts private, especially for public accounts.
Over the past years when it was still under Jack Dorsey's legacy, this public availability of liked posts has been available for a long time and was not that much of a topic for its users.
X Private Likes Made Public was Because of 'Security Incident'
The latest move from X was to address the recent fiasco which made likes visible again for other users or their followers to see despite making it private last June. According to a new report from 9to5Mac, it recently spotted a new email from the social media platform that acknowledged the said feature going haywire, and not according to its plans.
It was revealed that users who saw their likes still being visible to the public were "potentially affected" by a recent "security incident."
Not all users were a part of the private likes being publicly available for others on X, but the platform did not reveal who or how much was affected.

Did X Fix the Private Likes Issue of Public Visibility?
Currently, X is still upholding that all user accounts would have their likes private and can only seen by them on the platform. That being said, the company did not reveal if these affected accounts have already been fixed and have their likes no longer available to be seen by other users.
It is known that X went forth with this change to make browsing and engaging on the platform worry-free, to no longer 'incentivize' the wrong behavior.
X's Recent Changes and Features
The controversial change of X last June centered on introducing a new feature that prioritizes a user's privacy via the social media platform by making likes private. It was introduced earlier to X Premium users which allowed paid subscribers to have a more private experience online, and was later made available to all types of accounts for worry-free social media use.
One of the biggest changes for X in the present is its newfound focus on being a 'video-first' platform which owner Elon Musk and CEO Linda Yaccarino have been talking about. Later on, reports claimed that X wanted to take it a step further by dedicating an algorithm for users that would bring more video content to their feeds, and is based on their interests or preferences.
To date, X remains a strong platform and is still a popular one, but since Musk took over, there have been drastic changes that have taken place and led to many departing the platform and choosing its alternatives. One of X's recent changes was making likes private which it initially failed to so after facing a security incident, but has since fixed the issue to make this hidden on all user accounts.
