Samsung: Google Messages Now Priority in US, Phases Out Samsung Messages

Google Messages will now be the main app for Samsung Galaxy phones.

The latest from Samsung US is now prioritizing Google Messages over its self-developed app, Samsung Messages, and will use the new app as the default messaging platform for its Galaxy smartphones. This means that all text messages and MMS will be available via Google Messages on Samsung smartphones, with the inclusion of its RCS.

It came after Samsung decided to phase out Samsung Messages in different regions, with this app no longer pre-installed on its devices.

Recently, Max Weinbach spotted a new notice from Samsung that it will now prioritize the Google Messages app as its main communications platform for the Galaxy smartphones. This change began with the latest Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 releases recently unveiled via the Galaxy Unpacked event this July.

This latest revelation touts Google Messages as the "new and enhanced experience" to fulfill all of the chatting or texting experience on the Galaxy devices.

Samsung also claimed that this will deliver a safe experience for users while making it a fun platform for all, best known for its capabilities to bring multimedia content via RCS, enabled by default.

Samsung Messages Phase Out Begins for Galaxy Smartphones

Included in the message, Samsung claimed that its latest foldable smartphones, the Z Fold and Z Flip, will no longer have Samsung Messages pre-installed upon shipping. This newest change is seen in the US releases of the device and other regions, but not yet taking effect worldwide.

It was noted by another analyst, Mishaal Rahman, that Canada and Europe's regions still have Samsung Messagespreloaded in the new foldable releases.

Samsung Messages is still available to download via the Galaxy Store but will have limited features.

Samsung Messages vs. Google Messages

Samsung is also known for developing native apps for its Galaxy smartphones, offering a slur of different experiences to choose from, including a conversation platform that offers universal possibilities. Samsung Messages is the main app for this, and it is known to also feature RCS messaging that allows users to send multimedia chats over WiFi or cellular data.

Last 2022's Samsung Galaxy S22 release was known for shipping with a pre-installed Google Messages app on the device, with users given the option to use it as the default messaging app on the smartphone. While Samsung Messages is for Samsung only, Google Messages has been the more universal one which offers it to all of Android.

Google and Samsung have been known for their partnerships throughout the years, but their main goal is to universalize the modern smartphone experience for users to enjoy. After several issues last year on Samsung Messages, the company is now slowly phasing it out and this already applies to the US region, with Google Messages soon to be the main app for texting, leveraging its RCS capabilities.
