Limited-Edition Icons: A Growing Collection

According to Gaming Bible, the exact number of limited-time icons available throughout the Switch's lifespan is unclear. However, a Reddit user confirmed over 2,000 icons were obtainable as of February 2024. Additionally, another user categorized these icons by franchise, revealing over 400 Splatoon and nearly 600 Animal Crossing icons released since the Switch's launch in 2017.

Metroid Fans Should Take Note of This Again

The same Reddit post highlighted a trend - Nintendo seemingly gives Metroid the least love in the icon department. With only 45 Metroid Prime icons released to date, fans of the series might want to manage their expectations for Mario icon compatibility.

Claiming Your Mario Icons This Time Around

While not confirmed for these new Mario icons, it's worth noting that some recent icons required ownership of the corresponding game for redemption. So, if you lack a Mario title in your library, you might be out of luck this time around.

Be sure to check your My Nintendo Platinum Points balance and head to the My Nintendo store to claim your limited-edition Mario icons before they disappear.

In other news, The Verge spotted that an Animal Crossing-inspired Nintendo Switch Lite is currently available for just $159. You can enjoy a 21% discount upon purchasing this handheld console.
