In the heart of Limassol, Cyprus, the 2024 INEX Charity Ride brought together 80 eager young cyclists, all geared up and ready to take on the challenge. Organized by the local cycling group INEX Club, the event was a resounding success thanks to the cyclists' enthusiasm for the sport and the generosity of the event's sponsors, such as entrepreneur and former professional cyclist Igor Makarov, who raised funds in support of budding professional cyclists in Cyprus.

Though it has been decades since Makarov graced the professional cycling arena, his love for the sport never faded. Today, he uses his experience and resources to inspire and motivate new riders, specifically in Cyprus, to strive for excellence in their cycling endeavors.

Igor Makarov and Cycling

Makarov's sponsorship in sports activities is deeply rooted in his journey as an athlete. He understands the hurdles newcomers face in the sport and recognizes the importance of proper training, high-quality equipment, and expert guidance. His support provides essential resources for young cyclists, embodying the message that success is attainable with the appropriate backing.

This is why Makarov has a long history of supporting the causes of the cycling community. His contributions have extended to numerous initiatives, including serving on the UCI Management Committee and funding various global cycling organizations, such as Union Européenne de Cyclisme (UEC) federations, and various local charity rides, like "Tour de Broward" and "The Hublot Best Buddies Challenge: Miami."

He also founded and sponsored the Katusha Team, a Swiss-registered professional multinational cycling team that competed at the UCI ProTeam / WorldTour level from 2009 to 2019, significantly impacting the sport's development worldwide.

The INEX Club 2024 Charity Ride was a remarkable event showcasing numerous cyclists' talent and dedication. It featured two challenging routes, covering distances of 150 km and 300 km, with a total elevation gain of 2,900 meters.

The cyclists demonstrated their endurance and skill, traversing the demanding terrain and enjoying the camaraderie of fellow enthusiasts.

The ride concluded at the INEX Cycling Coffee Garage, where participants gathered to share their experiences and the adrenaline rush from the challenging routes. The beautiful scenery of Cyprus provided a stunning backdrop for the event, allowing cyclists to immerse themselves in the landscape while pushing their limits.

Makarov mentions, "The recent Charity Ride proved that we have a lot of talented cyclists. With sustained support and strategic investments, these young athletes can cultivate their talents even more, realize their aspirations, and become role models for the next generation of cyclists."

The Cyprus' Cycling Community in Capable Hands

Having lived in Cyprus for over three decades, Makarov has witnessed firsthand the positive growth of cycling culture and safety in the country. For Makarov, the INEX Club Charity Ride is a perfect avenue to empower today's generation of cyclists. He views participating in and sponsoring events as the foundation for more strategic partnerships to advance cycling in the country.

Makarov is confident that by working together, organizations like INEX Club and the local cycling federation can provide comprehensive training and opportunities while he assists in providing the needed resources. This will allow sports and talents to flourish, building a vibrant cycling community in Cyprus and beyond.
