$504 Million Initiative of the Biden Administration For Technology Hubs

The Biden administration announced a funding boost of $504 million to establish 12 technology hubs nationwide. These hubs, located in states like Ohio, Montana, Nevada, and Florida, among others, will receive implementation grants to advance technologies such as quantum computing, biomanufacturing, lithium batteries, computer chips, and personalized medicine, among others.

The Associated Press reported that Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo emphasized the administration's goal of fostering technological innovation across various regions, not just in major metropolitan areas like San Francisco, Seattle, Boston, and New York City.

Raimondo highlighted the presence of talented individuals, innovative entrepreneurs, and leading research institutions throughout the country, underscoring the importance of providing resources for these entities to excel in pivotal tech sectors essential to the global economy of the 21st century.

The Economic Development Administration of the Commerce Department will fund the initiative. In October, President Joe Biden designated 31 tech hubs.

Raimondo emphasized the administration's efforts to secure increased funding for the program to ensure that all designated tech hubs receive additional resources to enhance their competitive edge.
