The world is expecting the next Pixel Fold to be announced sometime this year, and new rumors claim that Google is already working on massive improvements for it, including an enhanced split-screen mode. It is speculated to be arriving with the new Pixel Fold device, with this new foldable expected to arrive soon for the world to see.

Foldable devices have long proven to be massive when it comes to multitasking, and enhancing this would allow more to enjoy what Pixel Fold has to offer.

Google's New Pixel Fold: Enhanced Split-Screen Mode Now In the Works

The new Pixel Fold from Google is known for being previously rumored to be called the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, and it is already working to improve one of its notable features with the so-called enhanced split-screen mode. Previously, Google's split-screen mode was in landscape mode, but the feature was revamped with the latest spotting in Android 14's QPR2.

Instead of staying in the landscape, the enhanced split-screen mode would allow a left and right split, now available in portrait mode.

This feature was referenced for the 'Pixel Fold 2' but is meant for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, the new namesake of Google's horizontal-folding device.

What to Expect from the Upcoming Pixel Fold 2?

The Pixel 9 Pro Fold, a.k.a. the Pixel Fold 2, will feature a "nearly square" aspect ratio in the future, making it more fitting to bring this new split orientation that would allow better display on the device. As evidenced by its code, portrait mode will be upgraded thanks to the latest enhancements by Google on Android 14.

In addition, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is expected to arrive alongside the Pixel 9 series at this coming August 13 showcase.

Google and Its Pixel Fold Experiences

When Google debuted its first-ever foldable smartphone, the Pixel Fold, last year, it was met with enthusiasm as it offers a massive set of features and promising experiences. This happened last May, but this year, there seem to be no plans yet for the next Pixel Fold to be announced. However, it is still expected to arrive later this year for an update.

However, instead of seeing good reviews and a warm welcome from the market, it was met with negative connotations and opinions from its early users. It was closely compared to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold4, with the device said to be inferior to its South Korean rival. It only offers two apps on the split screen and has a poor battery life.

Other comments from its users continued with negative remarks, casting a massive shadow on the Pixel Fold, and many considered it to be a flop. However, Google is not yet giving up on its take on foldable, as an upcoming Pixel Fold 2 is on the way, now looking to improve more of what it has to offer, including its enhanced split-screen set to debut with the foldable.
