YouTube is introducing a set of new features to its Premium subscription program, with as many as five experiences coming to the paid service. Among the five features, there are some experimental additions meant for testing, but instead of being in beta, Premium users get the chance to try them out before they arrive permanently.
Instead of holding a beta for YouTube, it brings these new features to Premium, similar to other platforms, including X.
YouTube Premium: 5 New Features Coming For All to Try
In YouTube's latest blog post, Product Manager Dave Wu detailed the upcoming experiences accessible on the platform, which consist of five new features. Two of those would be stable releases, meaning they were meant for release already, but three of these are experimental and may have several issues or bugs that may appear along the way.
First, there is a feature that changes the double-tap skip on YouTube. Instead of a 10-second skip, it would 'jump ahead' to recommended parts of the video, as determined by its AI and "viewership data."
Next, YouTube Shorts will get a new feature that will allow Premium users to stream these videos while in picture-in-picture (PiP) mode.
Some New YouTube Premium Features are Experimental
Three experimental features are also coming, but users have to opt-in via this website to receive it.
This includes Smart Downloads, centering on YouTube Shorts clips that will allow offline streaming, the return of YouTube's conversational AI, and, lastly, a redesign coming to the Watch page available on the web.
YouTube Premium and What It Has to Offer
YouTube Premium is the way to go for uninterrupted streaming that will no longer give you those pesky ads. For a certain price, users can also receive massive features like improved streaming, like 1080p Premium. This specific feature, exclusive for Premium users, offers an enhanced bitrate quality for the videos, initially launched for the web only.
It is known that YouTube adds different features now and then, but most new ones arrive on Premium before they are made available to more free users. Previously, the PiP experience was exclusive to YouTube Premium users only, allowing them to multitask, but it was later made available to free users in the US.
An upcoming set of new features for YouTube Premium users will offer experiences that will help improve their online streaming alongside the company's earlier releases. The five features will include three experimental ones, offering a peek at what YouTube is building in the process. These features may very well join the set of features available to access on the platform.
