Gmail for Android and iOS is reportedly introducing Gemini-generated summarizations of emails, joining many AI features on the application. 'Help me write' has been the main AI feature in mobile Gmail up to this point. The Gemini-powered 'Summarize this email' button in Gmail will start rolling out now and appear beneath the subject line. 

It only appears as a Gemini sheet sliding from the bottom of the screen in email threads with "more than 2 responses." You can answer with a thumbs up or down. The entire version will be accessible in the upcoming weeks, whereas Google will release Contextual Smart Reply and Gmail Q&A next month.

For online Gmail, the 1.5 Pro-powered Gemini side panel allows users to ask questions, retrieve specific information from emails in their inbox or from Google Drive files, summarize an email thread, and propose replies to an email thread. Gemini's Gmail integration was to be expected, as it had been heavily rumored in the previous months.

Google's AI Integration

Gmail's Gemini features are another step towards broader AI integration across different platforms. Google revealed at I/O 2024 that Gemini can now more effectively search for the media users want with 'Ask Photos,' which is driven by the newest model and improves image search.

However, Google has also enhanced its browser and search engine through multimodal AI technology, providing a fresh approach to benefit from generative search. Gemini would enable users to present web content briefly, such as AI Overview, while giving adjustable options for additional customization.

AI in Emails

AI in emails continues to be a growing trend. Recently, Yahoo Mail's desktop edition received additional AI features to improve task management and email. Yahoo's new Priority Inbox tab allows users to view these summaries and prioritizes the most crucial items for storage.

Yahoo Mail's inbox now has quick action buttons and AI-powered summaries. These buttons let customers check in for flights, track packages straight from their email, and quickly add activities to their calendars. Additionally, the upgrade seeks to increase efficiency by decreasing the steps required to handle email-related operations.

Another revolutionary development is the option to connect Yahoo Mail to other email accounts, such as Gmail, Microsoft Outlook, and AOL. Customers can send and receive emails from several Yahoo Mail accounts through this interface, providing a consolidated platform for handling all their email correspondence.  

It is essential to understand that Yahoo Mail is no longer a newcomer to the AI world. The platform unveiled several generative AI features last summer. They added an enhanced search option, a writing assistant to assist in creating emails with the right tone, and the Shopping Save function, which helps customers locate lost gift cards and coupon codes.
