Meta Launches Threads API

According to TechCrunch, Mark Zuckerberg announced the widespread availability of the Threads API, emphasizing its broad accessibility in the near future. This move allows developers to leverage Meta's platform more extensively.

Threads engineer Jesse Chen outlined the capabilities that were unlocked by the new API. Developers can now publish posts, retrieve their own content, and implement tools for managing replies. That includes features that allow users to hide or unhide replies and respond directly to specific comments.

Additionally, Meta has introduced analytics capabilities through the API, enabling developers to access metrics such as views, likes, replies, reposts, and quotes at both media and account levels.

This data-driven approach aims to provide deeper insights into Threads' user engagement and content performance. The development of the Threads API dates back to October 2023, when Meta's Instagram head, Adam Mosseri, first mentioned the company's plans during its closed beta phase.

Meta initially tested the API's functionalities by partnering with leading developers like Sprinklr, Sprout Social, Social News Desk, Hootsuite, Techmeme, and others. Following positive feedback and refinement, Meta has fulfilled its commitment to launch the API widely this month.

Meta has also released an open-source reference application on GitHub to further support developers. This initiative encourages developers to explore the API's capabilities and create applications that extend the functionality of Threads.

Threads Gets a TweetDeck Clone

Threads has seen a rise in popularity among users, prompting the emergence of third-party platforms like ThreadsDeck. This platform resembles Twitter's former TweetDeck, offering advanced content management features within Threads.

Twitter's TweetDeck was discontinued due to significant API policy changes that imposed substantial fees on developers, leading many to abandon the platform.

The latest enhancement to Threads' web interface introduces a column view, also called ThreadsDeck by users. This feature simplifies content management by allowing users to organize their feeds into customizable columns based on their preferences.

Each column can be tailored to display favorite searches, saved posts, or specific accounts, enabling users to streamline their browsing experience effectively.

However, it is important to note that the ThreadsDeck feature is currently exclusive to Threads' web interface, eliminating the need for third-party platforms for enhanced content management.

The ThreadsDeck allows users to pin up to 100 columns featuring various feeds on a single page. The default display continues to show the algorithm-based "For You" feed.

However, users will still have the option to minimize this column if they prefer not to view Meta's feed. Read more about this development here.
