Google released its Gemini Nano AI model for the Pixel 8 and 8a following its teaser in March.
The June Pixel release will provide developers with an AI model. The update also adds Display Port connectivity for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8a, reverse phone number search for unknown numbers, Pixel Watch 2 fall and crash detection, and Pixel tablet doorbell notifications.
Here's What You Need To Know on Google's June Pixel Update
In the Recorder app, the Gemini Nano should give extensive transcription summaries. Google has not disclosed the properties of the AI model, according to TechCrunch.
Other Pixel Drop improvements include display connection compatibility via the USB-C connection, allowing for wider screen viewing. Users may now check the call history for unknown numbers using a reverse phone number lookup. For this service, Google may use its caller ID database or a third-party database.
Even when the phone is empty, the Pixel 8, 8 Pro, and 8a smartphones' Finding My Device feature can now locate a turned-off device for up to 23 hours.
Notably, older and more affordable Pixel smartphones are getting new features. The call log now has a button for reverse phone number searches to find incoming calls. Pixel Fold, Pixel 6, and future variants will have this enhancement, per The Verge.
The Google June Pixel feature drop also improved HDR+ photo compatibility on Pixel 6 and later smartphones, wherein the best photograph is automatically selected, allowing photo "best moment" recognition. However, the Pixel Fold and Pro versions of the Pixel 6, 7, and 8 smartphones will be the only Pixel models to have manual lens selection during shooting.
Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Tablet Updates
Meanwhile, updates on Pixel Watch 2 allow it to detect automobile accidents and send emergency contacts to the user's location. In addition to the watch's fall detection capability, bicycle fall detection has been improved to detect falls from two-wheeled vehicles.
All Wear OS 3 and later devices will get a revised Home app from Google. The updated software allows users to swipe to access their favorite smart gadgets and change temperature or lights, according to Tom's Guide.
The Google June Pixel feature drop allows users to add commonly used devices to the Wear OS watch face, as well as customize blind rotation and fan speed.
Moreover, the PayPal functionality in Google Wallet expands Pixel Watch payment options. This recently revealed functionality lets users utilize PayPal instead of credit cards to make transactions. The expansion of this function beyond the U.S. and Germany remains uncertain.
The Wear OS 3 Google Home app will also be improved for better interoperability with Google Home devices. The Google Home app now has a Wear OS tile for convenient access to smart home devices. Google Home Complications may be added to watch faces for easy control. The upgraded software will now allow fan speed, rotation, and humidifier changes for smart home devices.
For the Pixel Tablet update, public preview tablets will only gain enhanced smart doorbell functionality. While docked in hub mode, the Pixel Tablet may provide more comprehensive doorbell alerts, including a photo of the person at the door. The tablet features an enhanced Google Home favorites widget with fast and customized smart home controls on the home screen.
