After missing out on the Xbox Games Showcase, Xbox boss, Phil Spencer, dropped a new hint regarding the possibility of a handheld gaming console from Microsoft's gaming department soon. This is regarded as the biggest hint to datebehind the Xbox handheld, and Spencer is known for his massive teasers in the past regarding the portable console.
In his opinion, Spencer claimed that Xbox should bring a handheld console too in the market, and this might be a confirmation that it will soon.
Phil Spencer Drops Hints on Xbox Handheld
In a new interview by IGN with Xbox's top executive, Phil Spencer, there were massive hints dropped regarding an Xbox gaming console that may be in the works or under consideration by the company. This is because Spencer regarded that he thinks Xbox "should have" a handheld device as well, especially during this time when the console rose to popularity.
The interview took place after the recent Xbox Game Showcase over the weekend which was also expected to be the event that will finally confirm the handheld, but it did not.
However, Spencer clarified that the event was dedicated to its games, but also noted that there would be a time when he and Xbox could "talk more about the platform."
Is the Xbox Handheld Confirmed?
Further into the interview, Spencer was asked about what an Xbox handheld would bring, whether streaming games or playing it locally, to which the Xbox boss claimed that they want a 'true handheld' unlike the PlayStation Portal.
Spencer revealed that he owns a Steam Deck, a ROG Ally, and a Lenovo LEGION GO where he enjoys local access to games.
Xbox and Handheld Gaming
In the Big Three of the gaming world, Microsoft and Xbox are the only ones who do not have a handheld in the past and even the present, as opposed to Sony and Nintendo. For Sony, there is the recent PlayStation Portal which faced mixed reviews from gamers as it was only a mirror to the PS5, while Nintendo's current Switch is one of the excellent devices available.
However, Xbox is reportedly already in development of its take on a handheld gaming console that will rival the other two massive names in the industry, as well as the other players in the market.
Xbox's late interest in handhelds will also have it going against the likes of Valve's Steam Deck, ASUS' ROG Ally, Lenovo's LEGION GO, and more from Ayaneo.
Microsoft's Xbox is yet to deliver on the portable gaming console experience but there are rumors behind its plans for it, as well as development that is already taking place under a massive veil of secrecy. That being said, Spencer has dropped massive hints on various occasions already, one that suggests Microsoft is close to addressing what they are missing out on, soon.
