Apple WWDC 2024: iOS 18 to Bring AI-Powered Features

An upcoming WWDC is full of surprises centered on AI-powered iOS 18.

Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024 is expected to be a landmark event in the tech giant's history.

While last year's debut of the Vision Pro took center stage, this year's focus shifted to software, with iOS 18 and its AI integrations leading the charge.

The conference, set to kick off Monday, June 10 at 10 a.m. PT, promises a deep dive into how Apple plans to introduce a unique ecosystem through advanced AI technologies, including its partnership with OpenAI.

Siri's AI-Enabled Transformation

Siri, Apple's digital assistant, is set for a major overhaul with iOS 18. Leveraging Apple's proprietary large language models, Siri will gain the ability to control individual features within applications without requiring additional setup from developers or users.

TechCrunch reports that this improvement will enable Siri to perform tasks like deleting emails or editing photos seamlessly. While some advanced capabilities, such as handling multi-step tasks, may not be available until next year, users can expect a more natural-sounding voice and improved functionality on devices like the Apple Watch.

Siri will also be able to summarize notifications, providing concise updates on people, companies, events, and more.

Enhanced Apple Photos

Apple Photos is getting a significant upgrade with AI-powered features aimed at improving the user experience. A new interface will be introduced, allowing users to retouch photos with AI, rivaling Google Photos.

The "Clean Up" feature will enable users to remove unwanted objects from their photos using generative AI technology. Additionally, Apple is reportedly working on an internal application called Generative Playground, which uses AI to create and edit images. This functionality may be integrated into iMessage as an app extension.

AI-Driven Safari

Safari, Apple's web browser, will incorporate AI to enhance user interaction with web pages and news articles. The new Intelligent Search feature will provide AI-generated recaps, making it easier for users to stay informed without reading entire articles.

Revamped Calendar and Mail Apps

The Calendar app will integrate with Apple's LLM to check for events when composing messages. The Mail app will feature AI-generated suggested replies, streamlining email communication.

Smarter Notes App

The Notes app will see significant AI enhancements, allowing users to request AI-generated recaps and transcriptions of their notes.

In-app audio recording and transcription, along with AI summarization, will make note-taking more efficient. The addition of Math Notes will help users create graphs and solve equations using AI, streamlining the process of working with mathematical content.

Voice Memos Transcription

iOS 18 will introduce real-time transcription for voice memos, making it easier for users to capture and review spoken content.

AI-Powered iMessages

The iMessage app will feature generative AI emojis, enabling users to create custom emojis. AI will also provide recaps of missed texts and suggest replies, enhancing the messaging experience. Additional updates include new icons for Tapbacks, individual word message effects, and support for RCS, which will improve communication with Android users by enabling read receipts, typing indicators, and high-quality media sharing.

New Settings Interface

iOS 18 will introduce a revamped Settings interface, improving organization and search capabilities, making it easier for users to use their devices.

Maps and Music Enhancements

Maps will support custom route creation, allowing users to design personalized trip routes. Apple Music will introduce AI-powered auto-generated playlists, offering a competitive edge against platforms like Spotify.

Control Center and Home Screen Updates

The Control Center will receive updates, including a new Music widget with larger artwork. Home Screen enhancements will allow users to place app icons anywhere and change their colors, providing a more personalized experience.
