According to new data and studies about the feature, the latest experience on Google Search, AI Overviews, is now less common when looking for information online. It is widely known that when Google launched AI Overviews, it brought significant problems centered on the inaccurate and misleading information that has plagued the experience since then.
It is known that Google acknowledged that AI Overviews was flawed, and the company is looking to address the issue to improve the experience for future use.
Google AI Overviews Appear Less in Search Now
SEO platform BrightEdge (via Search Engine Lands) released its latest analytics on Google's AI Overviews, with its findings showing that the technology now appears less than 15 percent on the platform. This number is far from when it was initially under testing, previously called the Search Generative Experience (SGE), where it showed up around 84 percent.
According to the report, Google would most likely show AI overviews when a user search is in question form and if a featured screenshot is also available.
However, Google Search currently only shows AI Overviews when users opt into the experience or are hidden until they click or tap on them.
Was It Rolled Back Because of Its AI Mistakes?
For now, Google is not yet giving up on having AI appear on Search, but it is not exactly throwing it wildly to users in the present, and its faulty technology, which it previously acknowledged, is one to blame. There may be an upcoming revamp to AI Overviews, as Google promised that improvements would be coming to it, one that would hopefully fix the issues.
Google AI Overviews and Its Launch Issues
It is known that AI can hallucinate or deliver false information, and it has been a known problem in technology. This may be the same issue that Google's AI Overview has had since its launch. Right from the get-go, its launch last mid-May was plagued by a faulty user experience, pushing false and incorrect search summaries above the traditional ones.
While the main purpose of AI Overviews is to give users a summary of the traditional search results, in theory, it was a promising experience for all. However, it did not take long before users started to throw criticisms and harsh words against the latest Search feature because of its inaccurate results, with easy-to-spot errors that could mislead those not paying attention.
Google Search offers a collection of the latest and most relevant information online, especially when looking for a certain piece of information on the web. However, AI Overviews' flawed technology does not do Search justice, and it gives artificial intelligence a further bad reputation among users, with Google's course of action being to have it appear less on the experience.
