Apple has introduced a new Magic Keyboard for the latest iPad Pro models, claiming it to be "thinner and lighter" than its predecessor.
Early reviews and measurements seem to back up these claims. However, how good is it compared to the previous model? Let's find out.
Lighter iPad Magic Keyboard
Although Apple doesn't typically disclose the weight of its iPad accessories, early reviewers have shared their findings.
As per MacRumors, Jason Snell from Six Colors reported the weight of the 13-inch Magic Keyboard at 667 grams.
Brian Tong found it to be 662 grams, and The Verge recorded 658 grams. Despite these slight variations, it's evident that the new 13-inch Magic Keyboard is around 50 grams lighter than the previous model, which weighed approximately 710 grams.
Significant Weight Difference in iPad Pro Models
The new 13-inch iPad Pro itself weighs 580 grams, significantly lighter than the previous generation 12.9-inch model, which was 682 grams.
Combining the new iPad Pro with the Magic Keyboard brings the total weight to approximately 1,247 grams, nearly matching the 1.24 kg weight of Apple's M3-powered 13-inch MacBook Air.
11-inch Magic Keyboard Weight Comparison
For the 11-inch version, a MacRumors forum member reported the new Magic Keyboard weighs 580 grams. This is lighter compared to the previous model, which weighed 601 grams.
Is the New Magic Keyboard Better Than the Previous Version?
Apple's new Magic Keyboard enhances portability and efficiency for iPad Pro users. With the confirmed weight reduction, users can enjoy a lighter and more convenient experience without compromising functionality.
According to The Verge, the M4-equipped iPad Pro Magic Keyboard costs $299 and $349 for the 11-inch and 13-inch models, respectively.
It's important to note that you cannot pair them with the 2024 edition of iPad Air models (11 inches and 13 inches).
Of course, since it's a new iteration, expect it to be better than the previously released model. The palm rest which was formerly made out of plastic is now manufactured with aluminum. On top of that, the new iPad Magic Keyboard has a function row, as well as a bigger glass trackpad capable of generating haptic feedback.
Meanwhile, Apple Vision Pro units will soon be available globally, according to the Cupertino giant. It is scheduled to roll out outside the US after WWDC 2024 on June 14.
The move comes even after Apple's mixed-reality headsets saw low demand among consumers, not to mention the other problems they faced when it came to their specifications.
If you're looking for this wearable headset right now, prepare $3,499. It's a game-changing gadget for VR users, but if your wallet does not permit you to buy it, you can still pick other options in the market.
