TikTok is reportedly testing out a new search results feature that involves ChatGPT artificial intelligence, suggesting relevant search results to certain user search queries.
Some search results pages have a summary of AI results at the top; selecting the area users are interested in brings up the complete answer on a new page.
According to a page outlining the outcomes, ChatGPT is used to create the content, which TikTok then shows when its algorithm determines it is pertinent to the user's search. According to reports, the feature is still in its early stages because not all questions have AI responses.
"Search highlights" is another feature that isn't marked as AI-generated. These also appear at the top of search results, but it's unclear where the information is derived—for example, from a summary of a film or something else entirely. When asked about the features, TikTok did not immediately reply.
TikTok's AI Policies
In response to mounting worries about potential misuse, TikTok has unveiled a new policy that entails the automated labeling of content generated by artificial intelligence.
Soon, TikTok will recognize and classify AI-generated material from OpenAI, Google, Adobe, Microsoft, and Midjourney.
TikTok plans to identify photos and movies submitted to its site that were created using AI by utilizing a digital watermark known as Content Credentials.
Adam Presser, head of operations, trust, and safety at TikTok, stressed the importance of transparency, adding that the platform has policies against unlabeled realistic AI.
If such AI is found on the platform, it will be removed as a breach of community guidelines.
The business is expanding its practice of labeling content created outside the platform to include content created within its app.
TikTok has partnered with the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) to give users more context regarding the source of AI-generated content.
ChatGPT Search Engine
This recent ChatGPT integration with TikTok's search results coincides with past reports stating that the AI giant could soon release its search engine.
According to sources, OpenAI's search tool is an addition to its well-known ChatGPT product, which enables ChatGPT to extract citations and raw Web content.
Using the company's cutting-edge AI models, OpenAI's chatbot product, ChatGPT, produces responses to text cues that mimic a human's.
Industry observers have long used ChatGPT as a stand-in for getting Internet data, even though it hasn't always been able to provide accurate and up-to-date Web data.
OpenAI had previously connected it with Microsoft Bing for users who had to pay for access. Google, on the other hand, has demonstrated generative AI capabilities for its identically named engine.
Before OpenAI, several AI research centers considered launching a web search tool. Perplexity.ai, which debuted in August 2022, is centered on search-based queries rather than conversational answers, as was the case with previous AI systems.
