The 'spray and pray' iMessage delivery scam is currently targeting iPhone owners. It can lure you to paying money, but there's a way to avoid this new attack.

Evri's security chief, Richa Bhuttar, described the attack as the "spray and pray" method, where scammers send out thousands of messages, hoping to ensnare unsuspecting individuals. This tactic capitalizes on the high volume of parcel deliveries made daily, increasing the likelihood of reaching potential victims.

Deceptive Redelivery Fees

Bhuttar clarified that Evri does not charge redelivery fees, debunking the scam's premise.

Despite this, scammers persist in attempting to coerce recipients into paying unnecessary fees, preying on individuals' expectations of parcel deliveries, according to The Sun.

Protect Yourself Against Phishing

Victims of such scams are advised to promptly notify their banks if they have inadvertently disclosed financial information. Additionally, Evri encourages individuals to report suspicious activity on their website, where all messages will undergo thorough investigation with expert partners to dismantle associated fraudulent websites.

"Gmail and Hotmail have pretty much got it nailed in terms of diverting phishing emails to quarantine folders whereas smaller mail providers seem to be less effective because their maturity is not at the same level," Bhuttar said.

Reporting Suspicious Texts

Recipients can also report suspicious texts by forwarding them to 7226 or contacting Action Fraud at 0300 123 2040, Express reports. By remaining vigilant and promptly reporting fraudulent activity, individuals can protect themselves and others from falling victim to phishing scams.

As phishing scams evolve, it is essential to stay informed and cautious when interacting with unsolicited messages or requests for personal information. You should take proactive measures and report suspicious activity, individuals can contribute to dismantling fraudulent schemes and safeguarding their financial well-being.

As Evri said, you can easily spot fake iMessages by looking at three red flags. These are:

  • Unusual links
  • Poor language
  • Lack of personal greeting

Since most scammers don't care about grammar, it's pretty obvious that wrong spelling and other mistakes are part of this tactic.

It should be noted that Evri's messages are correct and there's no way it will spell your name incorrectly.

If you notice that the message starts with 'Dear Customer," it's mostly like a fake message. The legitimate message should use your name.

Furthermore, Evri's text messages have no links except when tracking goods. The company adds that you should not click https:/evri.link/ since it's not guaranteed to be genuine.

Aside from delivery scams, iPhones are also plagued with spyware attacks. The most recent was the Mercenary spyware which targeted 92 countries in the latest report.
