Bumble's founder is reportedly envisioning using artificial intelligence in the dating application, dubbed "Dating Concierge," that helps users get better matches by giving dating advice about their insecurities and even going on dates with other dating concierges in the user's place.
In an on-stage interview, Bloomberg's Emily Chang discussed examples of how AI can make online dating worse, such as bots impersonating real people or real people falling in love with bots.
Herd retorted that Bumble wants to use technology to support the development of more equal and healthy relationships.
Shortly, users may, for instance, confide in an AI dating concierge about their fears, and the concierge could provide them with advice on how to overcome those fears, according to Herd.
Herd even hinted that the day might come when users might utilize the concierge to discover matches by arranging dates with other concierges. It is implied that if the bots get along well on a date, then so would their human counterparts.
Herd was unfazed by the laughter from the audience, pointing out that users are no longer required to converse with 600 individuals. All it has to do is search through all of San Francisco for the user and find the three individuals they could meet.
Bumble's AI Ventures
Herd's artificial intelligence proposals for Bumble came just months after the dating app used AI to detect and ban scammers on the application.
The business unveiled Deception Detector, its newest artificial intelligence technology, to further increase user security and safety. In testing conducted by the company, the Deception Detector identified almost 95% of accounts as spam, scam, or fraudulent and blocked them.
According to the business, in the first two months of its launch, it eliminated about 45% of the suspicious accounts detected by its artificial intelligence system.
This also follows Bumble's research, which indicated that online dating users are primarily concerned about the vast risk of fraud and the spread of phony profiles.
Furthermore, 46% of women stated that they had doubts about the veracity of the connections they made via online dating applications.
AI Dating in 2023
AI in dating is not a brand-new concept; in 2023, several platforms used AI algorithms to start casual conversations or even select possible matches based on appearance.
In a daring move, one app even lets users go on pretend dates with AI figures. These market leaders have presented user profiles using algorithms for years, but the new AI-powered competitors are pushing the boundaries with their unorthodox approaches.
Daniel Liss, the founder and CEO of Dispo, claims that striking up a conversation is the hardest part of dating. In June of last year, he unveiled Teaser AI, promising to boost matches and decrease ghosting.
Thanks to Teaser AI, every person is guaranteed to receive at least one answer from a bot.
Through quick conversations, users of the software help train the bot to mimic their conversational style by sharing common speech patterns. After that, these bots engage in dialogue with possible matches or their matching bots, acting as a "teaser."
