Microsoft's latest bold move is creating an Xbox mobile game app store, which the company announced will launch this July. Users will be able to enjoy and receive first-party games from the company.
Its focus would be on first-party games, meaning that titles from Xbox, Bethesda, and Activision Blizzard would be available thanks to its merger portfolios.
Xbox Mobile Game App Store is Coming This July
Microsoft's Xbox President, Sarah Bond, confirmed that there is an upcoming Xbox mobile gaming app store coming this July, revealing it via the Bloomberg Technology Summit earlier today.
The Microsoft executive said that this launch would bring a platform dedicated to offering first-party games from Xbox, but the company has yet to give the app marketplace an official name.
Bond revealed that there are already various titles slated for the Xbox mobile app store, one that would focus on gaming and what these bring.
The company will first launch on the web to ensure it is available across different devices, rivaling the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Bond said they would push forward despite the restrictive policies of these mobile platforms.
What can you expect from Xbox's mobile app store?
Xbox has many mobile games in development and thanks to its acquired companies. This includes Activision Blizzard, which is the biggest possible contributor with existing titles like Candy Crush Saga, Call of Duty: Mobile, Hearthstone, Diablo Immortal, and more.
There is also Bethesda's Fallout Vault game that is made for smartphones. Microsoft's Mojang would also deliver the Minecraft mobile in this venture.
However, it is important to note that Bond only confirmed several titles like Candy Crush, Minecraft, and Call of Duty: Mobile in this Xbox app store.
Xbox and Its Foray Into Mobile Gaming
The historic acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft and Xbox is one of the largest in the world, particularly as both are known as massive gaming companies.
The $69 billion merger deal encountered massive problems during its initial proposal. Regulators worldwide sought to block the case, discussing antitrust disputes and other issues that hindered it from moving forward.
However, Microsoft previously revealed that Xbox is looking to grow its gaming segment thanks to this merger, focusing on mobile and ads.
The strategy is unknown, but it was proven and tested before Activision Blizzard acquired King, the renowned Candy Crush Saga maker, and saw mobile dominance.
Now, Microsoft and Xbox already own Activision Blizzard King, which means that they can move forward with their mobile gaming plans, especially as it brought in more for what it will offer.
Mark your calendars as Xbox is coming to mobile gaming via a new app store this July, showcasing the best of its offers alongside its acquired company's games.
