Welcome to a new week of Tech Times' Weekly Wrap, which brings you the top news from the last seven days.
We start with a recent discovery from researchers about diet and diabetes that may increase cancer risk.
Also, there is Apple's massive Q2 2024, with the company sharing its report showing that it exceeded industry experts' estimates.
Lastly, there was also a massive focus on an AI Priest named Father Justin, who made wild claims that were not divine and respectful of the Christian religion.
Diet and Diabetes May Increase Cancer Risk
Researchers from Singapore and the United Kingdom have found how diet and diabetes affect your body and help increase the risk of getting cancer.
However, the researchers have also found a way to deactivate these so-called tumor-suppressing genes that increase the said risk, showing how it could also use diet and medications to help stem contracting cancer.
The BRCA2 gene promotes cancer growth in human tissues, animal models, and lab-grown human beast organoids.
Methylglyoxal (MGO), a byproduct of glucose metabolism, was found to be more harmful to cells than BRCA2, which is known for hindering DNA repair. Early detection of MGO levels may help prevent cancer cells from developing.
Changes in glucose metabolism may help temporarily disable the BRCA2 gene.
Apple's Q2 2024 Exceeds Expectations
The latest Q2 2024 earnings report from Apple shows how the company beat the expectations from Wall Street, with the company performing better than what was predicted for the quarter.
This is especially significant to the company as it is known for facing hardware sales issues, particularly for the notable slump the iPhone suffered this quarter.
In this quarter, Apple reported $90.8 billion in revenue, which is down 4 percent year over year, but it boasts an all-time revenue record in its Services. However, it is expected to only see $90.1 billion in earnings.
Apple first suffered a loss of its iPhone hardware sales during the first quarter, taking the hit in China due to Huawei's market share. It also lost the top spot as the leading smartphone vendor to Samsung earlier this year.
AI Priest is Getting a Demotion
Catholic Answers, a Christian media ministry organization, brought the AI priest, Father Justin, to life. Still, it was said to be a "holy mistake" after what it delivered to users during its initial availability.
The group already demoted Father Justin after various misleading answers to questioning followers, with the most controversial take of the AI telling users that it is "okay" to use Gatorade for baptism.
However, the AI priest also brought controversial information to users asking about their faith from the interactive AI app Catholic Answers recently released, where Father Justin can be found.
While the intention is good, including giving Father Justin a 3D body to take the AI's form, it was far from perfect and was not a leader to users who are looking for faithful answers.
