After many years of missing out, Snapchat is now revealing that it is planning to add an "Edit Message" feature to its app, with the hopes of easing users' worries about sending the wrong message.
This upcoming feature on Snapchat will be included in future app updates, but there is a catch for accessing it before its initial rollout to users.
Many social media and instant messaging platforms have already introduced the Edit feature, and Snapchat, the renowned platform, is looking to catch up.
Snapchat Will Let Users Edit Messages Soon
According to Snap's latest news release, they are now adding a feature that offers editable chats to fix typos and correct oneself when there are inaccuracies or wrong information in messages they send.
While it is true that people cannot get back what they said, this new feature on Snapchat will help prevent that from happening.
Users have up to five minutes to edit the chats they send to others and change the narrative or information available.
This will help prevent misunderstandings and a chance to clear things up before their friend replies to the conversation that could stir the pot.
Snapchat's Edit Has a Catch
However, Snapchat's Editable Chats feature has a catch for now: The company will first make it available to Snapchat+ users, a.k.a. the platform's premium-subscribed users.
This does not mean that free or regular users will not have a chance to get it, but Snapchat has not yet revealed when it will reach the unsubscribed.
Snapchat and Its App
Snapchat is known for being the first to bring 24-hour expiring Stories and expiring media for private messages, with the app known for being extremely popular despite the test of time.
However, it does not mean it is falling behind, as the company recently adopted generative AI for its features, including the AI selfie feature called "Dreams," to edit and improve the images.
Snap also introduced massive AI changes to the platform with its My AI assistant, which OpenAI's ChatGPT powers.
Moreover, it partnered with Microsoft to bring ads to the platform in collaboration with OpenAI and Microsoft, which helped it reach massive highs and a newfound revenue that boosted more of the platform.
Apart from these AI developments, Snapchat also improved several aspects of user security and privacy and made various enhancements that make the overall experience worthwhile.
Now, Snapchat is focusing on the basics, with its new feature offering a way to edit messages sent to friends or mutuals, but it will soon be made available to Snapchat+ users first.
